Why 80% of people give up on their goals by March
Q1 is almost overâhave you made real progress?
I see you, 2025 will be your year, the year that you put action behind your dreams and goals and change the future for yourself! Like most people, the start of a new year gave your brain a hefty dopamine hit of positivity, hope, and excitement. But here we are, two months later â has anything really changed?
Have you moved the needle on those goals?
If you're like most people who started the year with big goals... 80% of people abandon their resolutions by March. Reality check â that's next week!
Before you get too hard on yourself, I'm here to tell you that it's not you; it's your brain! Say what?!
It's not You, it's Your Brain
Yes, it's your brain that's the problem. Even though you meant every word you said when you set those goals, you unwittingly set up a neurochemical cocktail that has not helped your cause. Let me explain why.
When you kicked off your year, your brain was on fire with optimism. The "fresh start effect" triggered a dopamine surgeâthe brain's reward neurotransmitter and gave you that initial rush of motivation, excitement, and hope. But guess what? This dopamine hit doesn't last forever. As the novelty fades and the work begins, your brain adapts. The neural circuits you were rewiring begin to normalise, and those feelings of excitement start to dwindle.
The Plastic Brain
Here's the kicker: Our brains are hardwired for energy conservationâchange takes effort, and without constant reinforcement, the brain reverts to the familiar. Neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain's ability to change and adapt, is impressive but requires a sustained, conscious effort to keep that momentum going. Without it, change can start to feel too hardâand that's when most people drop off.
At this moment, many of us give up, thinking we're not good enough or capable of change. But the truth is, it's not about you; it's about understanding how your brain works and setting yourself up for success.
How do you overcome this and ensure that, as you promised yourself in January 2025 i, as you promised yourself your year?
How to Help Your Brain, Help You
The first step is to acknowledge where you are right now. Change begins with a reality check. Knowing where you are means you can figure out what to do next.
The second is to understand that going it alone makes lasting change incredibly difficult.
But here's the good news: we can tap into specific behaviours that our brain naturally defaults toâlike adapting to our environment, rising (or falling) to the expectations of our social group, and feeling a strong need to align our actions with our words to avoid psychological discomfort.
It's Always Better Together
What does this mean practically? Seek out people already doing what you want to improveâwhether it's a dance class, a writing club, or a business mastermind. Surround yourself with others who are also committed to growth. Find an accountability buddy who will hold you to your word and help you stay on track.
Why?
Because we can hack our brains by leveraging the power of group dynamics. The human brain is wired for social connection. When we're in a group that's aiming for similar goals, our brain releases oxytocinâthe "bonding hormone" that encourages trust, cooperation, and a sense of belonging. Thus, we feel supported and motivated to keep showing up.
Being in a community also creates social pressure (in a good way!). When we know that others are watching us and have our backs, staying accountable and overcoming challenges is easier. Plus, being part of a community that shares their wins and struggles helps us remember that we are not alone and that others share the obstacles we face. Tapping into each other's energy feeds us and helps the group maintain momentum.
The Freedom Collective
That's precisely why I'm launching đ The Freedom Collective đâa high-impact mastermind designed for ambitious women like you who want to achieve more with less hustle, more impact, and peace of mind. Why Good Sleep Is Non-Negotiable for Your Mental Health, Performance, and Well-Being
You must prioritise your sleep if you're serious about your mental health, energy levels, and long-term success. Too many high-achieving women push through exhaustion, believing that burning the midnight oil is the price of success. It's not. The truth is that sleep is not a luxury for the lazy or well-heeled; poor-quality sleep is a silent killer, sabotaging your mind, body, and performance.
Mental Health & Stress Management
Poor sleep fuels anxiety, irritability, and brain fog. When you're sleep-deprived, your brain's emotional centre (the amygdala) becomes overactive, making you more reactive to stress. At the same time, the part of your brain that handles logic, reasoning and decision-making (the prefrontal cortex) weakens. The result? Minor problems feel overwhelming, and emotional resilience drops. Deep, restorative sleep allows your brain to regulate emotions, process stress, and reset for the next day.
High Performance & Focus
Your brain processes, consolidates, and organises information while you sleep. If you're skimping on rest, your memory, creativity, and problem-solving abilities suffer. Sleep is also when your body repairs and strengthens neural connections, critical for learning and peak performanceâwhether leading a team, building a business, or managing a household.
Ageing & Longevity
Are you starting to look older than you want to? Long-term sleep deprivation increases the rate of ageing. Poor sleep triggers inflammation and increases cortisol (the stress hormone), breaking collagen down and leading to premature wrinkles and sagging skin. But it's not just about appearancesâgood sleep keeps your brain sharp, supports heart health, and extends your lifespan.
Healthy Weight & Metabolism
When you don't sleep enough, your hunger hormones go haywire. Ghrelin (the hunger hormone) spikes, making you crave sugar and processed foods, while leptin (the satiety hormone) drops, making it harder to feel satisfied after eating. Sleep is essential for metabolic health, weight maintenance, and good food choices.
My Deep Sleep Breakthrough
I've always known sleep was critical, but despite doing all the right thingsâreducing screen time, managing stress, and sticking to a routineâmy deep sleep scores were still lower than they should be. That changed when I discovered Prime Self Night.
This all-in-one night recovery drink combines premium magnesium, calming nootropics, and essential minerals to optimise sleep quality and overnight recovery. Unlike other sleep supplements, Prime Self Night supports relaxation, sleep cycles, and recoveryâwithout grogginess the following day.
Since adding it to my routine, my deep continuity score sleep has significantly improved, and I wake up feeling refreshed and recharged. One simple sachet before bed, and I sleep deeper, recover better and perform stronger the next day.
