Is overthinking stealing your time and confidence?
She looked at me through the screen, visibly frustrated.
“I just want to make a decision without spiralling into what ifs. I feel like I am constantly in my own head, second-guessing everything.”
This is more common than you think.
Most of the women I work with are incredibly capable. They run businesses, lead teams, manage households. On the outside, it all looks in control. Inside, they are exhausted from overthinking every move.
It shows up as:
- Replaying conversations long after they are done
- Delaying decisions while you gather just a little more information
- Holding back because you are worried you will get it wrong
It feels messy. Heavy. Confusing.
However, it is not who you are.
Overthinking is not a personality flaw. It is not a sign that you are unsure or weak.
It is a learned protective pattern in the brain. And once you understand what is happening, you can change it.
đź§ What Your Brain Is Really Doing
When you start to spiral into overthinking, your brain is doing what it believes will keep you safe.
Your prefrontal cortex starts working overtime, trying to think through every possible scenario so that nothing goes wrong.
Your amygdala sees the uncertainty as a threat, blocking you from making decisions.
Your default mode network lights up and starts playing loops of past mistakes and imagined worst-case outcomes.
It is not indecision. It is your brain stuck in a fear loop, trying to protect you from shame, failure, or regret.
That protection comes at a cost: clarity, peace, and progress.
⚡ How I Coach Women Through It: The STOP Framework
This is the same tool I teach inside my coaching programmes — and I break it down for you in this week’s YouTube episode.
🟥 S – Stop
Catch yourself in the spiral. Interrupt it. Out loud if you have to.
Say, “Stop. I am not doing this right now.”
This is when you shift from autopilot into awareness and reclaim control.
💬 T – Tell the Truth to build Trust
Ask yourself, “What is the absolute truth here?”
Not the assumptions about what could go wrong, but the actual truth about what you and your skills and abilities are, and what the actual worst-case scenario would be, truthfully.
And then get honest.
You are capable. You can handle uncertainty.
You can make another decision if things do not go the way you hope.
And the outcome you fear? It is probably not as likely or devastating as it feels right now.
Fear thrives in vague, imagined consequences.
Truth brings you back into clarity and personal power.
This is where the spiral begins to lose its grip.
🧠O – Override
Interrupt the story and choose a better thought.
Not a perfect one — a better one.
Try: “I can figure this out one step at a time.”
Or: “I have handled harder things than this.”
Even better: “Even if it doesn’t go as planned, I trust myself to figure out the next move”
You are not pretending. You are rewiring.
You are showing your brain that fear is not the only voice in the room.
Finally ask yourself, "If I fully trusted myself, what would I do next?
⚡ P – Power (Power Yourself Up)
Gather your power. Move. Take action. Do one thing.
Send the email. Make the call. Write the message.
Even a tiny step changes your chemistry — it tells your nervous system, “We are safe to proceed.”
You build confidence through action, not overanalysis.
Momentum dissolves mental fog.
Power is not found — it is activated.
